Coco Gough took care of her business early and advanced to the quarterfinals. However, Jessica Pegra was unable to get the job done, ensuring that the two American women would be the last eight.

Gouf, who took part in the event as a woman ranked 2nd, beat No. 20 Ekaterina Alexandrova on Monday in a straight set. Gov left Alexandrova completely off the board in the first set and hit Russia 6-0. Alexandrova threatened to win a second set, but Gauff dodged her to win 7-5.

Gauff faces challenges at French Open, but she hasn’t played the third set in four matches yet. She sends opponents in straight sets every time, but can change when the field collapses.

advertisement

The victory pushes Gouf to the French Open Quarter Finals for the fifth time in her career. Of the four Grand Slams, Gauff is the most consistent in French Open. She finished as a quarterfinal scholar in both 2021 and 2023, taking the semi-finals in 2024 and as a finalist in 2022. Despite its success, Gauff never won the event.

If Gauff is about to achieve that feat in 2025, she will need to defeat fellow American Madison Keys in the quarterfinals. The Keys defeated American Haley Baptist in the fourth round on Monday to establish the quarter-final match vs. Golf.

Madison Keys defeats Haley Baptist in the fourth round

High-class players were drawn out in the American battle. Keys defeated Baptist on a straight set on Monday.

advertisement

Keys ran into some trouble in the second set after removing a 6-3 victory in the first set. Baptist pushed Key to the limit, but Key won the second set of 7-5 to play the match.

This is the first time since 2019 that the Keys reached the quarterfinals of the French Open. Keys moved forward that round only once at the event, which was a semi-finalist in 2018.

To reach that stage in 2025 could prove difficult. Keys is a female player ranked 7th, but she deals with the second Goff. We promise to be one of the most exciting matches in the quarterfinals.

<dialog aria-label="Image Lightbox" class="lightbox-overlay" aria-modal="true"></dialog>

Jessica Pegra was unable to travel past Lois Boisson at the 2025 French Open. However, Pegra stumbled on the second set. After turning off the game early with Boisson, Pegula struggled late in the set, falling to 6-4 to set the third set.

Boisson looked strong early as he filmed the first two games. Pegra fought back to take the third game. Pegra ultimately moved forward before both women began trade-offs in the game. Boisson was able to push her lead 5-4. During the Line match, Pegra refused to go out easily. In the game with Deuce, Boishon and Pegula traded off points. One player will have an advantage by simply giving up on it right away. After a long inheritance, Boisson came out to the top and won the match by winning the final set of 6-4.

The loss makes the third seed Pegra the best seeded woman ever fallen. For Boisson, who took part in the event ranked No. 361, it marks the biggest victory of her career.

The French Open is not Pegra’s best tournament. She arrived in the quarterfinals only once when she fell to Iga Swieitok in the 2022 round.

Swiatek is one of the non-American women left at the event. She is joined by No. 1 in the women’s number one Alina Sabalenka, Mira Andreva, Qinwen Zheng, Elina Svitolina and Boisson. These six, along with Gouf and Key, will form the quarter-finals at the 2025 French Open.

Before Monday, it appeared that American women could take control at the 2025 French Open.
