  • Eddie Howe admits Libramento injury
  • Newcastle to keep an eye on Denzel Dumfries transfer
        • Newcastle are now looking to sign a midfield star who has been compared to Kante

Newcastle United are now reportedly aiming to sign one of the best right-backs in the world in 2026.

Eddie Howe admits Libramento injury

It comes as no real shock that Newcastle have set their sights on defensive reinforcements, particularly on the right flank, following news of Tino Livramento’s injury. The England international has already missed 10 games this season through injury and will miss the next three with a new knee problem.

There is no doubt that Livramento is one of the most important players at St James’ Park, which is why his recent injury concerns are all the more frustrating.

Meanwhile, Kieran Trippier is next up in the standings, but he is also currently sidelined with an injury. This was a minor crisis for Eddie Howe, who had no choice but to play alongside Lewis Miley at right-back against Fulham in midweek.

The decision ultimately paid off, with Miley scoring Newcastle’s final winning goal, with Howe telling reporters: “Levy did a really good job on Wednesday and I’m really happy for him.

“Great goal, great composure and a strong performance. Tactically each game is very different and each team presents a different challenge, so we have to try to pick the right team.”

However, if Livramento’s injury lingers, the academy graduate is certainly not a long-term solution and Newcastle will need to pursue a deal with Denzel Dumfries instead.

Newcastle to keep an eye on Denzel Dumfries transfer

As reported by TeamTalk, Newcastle are aiming to sign Dumfries from Inter Milan in 2026. The impressive Dutchman was described by Jeremy Frimpong as one of the best right-backs in the world last year, and his absence this season will not change that.

The Magpies are looking to strengthen their midfield.

Dumfries’ injury will prevent a transfer in January, but Newcastle would be wise to return to Italy with an offer to sign the defender in the summer.

The £87,000-a-week star would be perfect competition for Libramento and would be an immediate asset if the right-back were to join Manchester City amid ongoing transfer rumors.

That said, the numbers suggest that while Dumfries is one of the best players in the world at his position, Libramento is even better.

That’s why Man City are keen to sign the Tyneside star, and why Newcastle should do everything they can to keep him in 2026. However, it remains to be seen whether they can fend off public interest for a second year in a row.

As for Dumfries, he could be a player to keep an eye on when he returns from the sidelines later in the Serie A season.
