Real Madrid today submitted an offer to sign Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid.

The Spanish club issued an official statement on its website, claiming that Atletico Madrid had rejected the offer.

In a statement, Atlético Madrid insisted that it appreciated the offer, which was made in good faith, given the friendly relationship between the two clubs.

“Real Madrid CF announces, after today’s board meeting, that it has made an offer of 150 million euros to Club Atlético Madrid for the federation rights of player Julián Álvarez.”

“After considering and evaluating the offer, Club Atlético Madrid rejected it, expressing its gratitude for the offer made within the framework of the good relations between the two clubs and citing the player’s release clause.”

However, Atlético Madrid responded to the statement by saying they were not considering any offer for Alvarez and did not appreciate any approach from Real Madrid.

They wrote to X: “Your video of the Pope was cut off before he could say that he was also an Atleti fan. You may be confusing courtesy with gratitude, but just to be clear, we do not thank you for anything. We have not considered or evaluated any offers for Julián. Why can’t we get along when you make us laugh more than FC Barcelona?”?”.

Atlético Madrid also ridiculed the signing of Alvarez, explaining that Real Madrid were confusing courtesy with gratitude. Additionally, they published another post on X, urging Real Madrid to stop stealing academy players.

Atletico Madrid’s explosive reaction will further strain relations between the two clubs. It is clear that Julián Álvarez is not for sale and Real Madrid’s official statement has hurt Madrid’s rivals the wrong way.

Alvarez is likely to leave the club

The striker has also been linked with Barcelona, but the Spanish champions are yet to sign a contract with Atletico Madrid. The 26-year-old World Cup winner looks set to remain at Atletico Madrid next season.

Florentino Perez had previously hinted that he would make a mega-offer for the superstar after the presidential election, and Los Blancos have indeed made a move for Alvarez. It’s no secret that they need more quality in attack and the 26-year-old would be an exceptional addition.

However, Atlético Madrid’s latest reaction on social media has clearly closed the door on any potential move. Arsenal were also keeping tabs on Alvarez.
