The on-field ruling initially indicated offside against Haaland, but VAR confirmed he was onside. However, during the same play, although Enzo Fernandez did not touch the ball, the subjective nature of the offside ruling meant that the VAR should have acknowledged the potential impact of his position and recommended an on-field review. We contacted Manchester United this evening to recognize what we see as a judgment error, and we will reassess the incident.”
