Quentin Grimes was among the key free-agent signings the LA Lakers made during the offseason, and he’s already hard at work.
As LeBron James made a surprising move from the Lakers to the Philadelphia 76ers, Grimes took the opposite path, heading to Los Angeles.
Grimes and Luka Doncic, now both with the Lakers, were previously teammates on the Dallas Mavericks, having been traded by Nico Harrison at the same deadline in early 2025.
Currently, Grimes is focused on getting ready for the new season. The Lakers recently shared a video showcasing the guard’s rigorous training routine — sprinting, lifting weights, and practicing shooting — all happening at the team’s facility.
Fans are excited to see what Grimes can bring to the Lakers as they move forward in a post-LeBron era, reacting positively to the video.
One fan commented, “Hope QG can find a long term home here, always liked his game.” Another shared, “One of the most underrated players in the league. What a great signing.”
Others noted his smooth movement and potential impact, with one saying, “The way he’s moving in this clip already looks smoother than half the roster last season. Expecting big things from him in that lineup.” Another simply stated, “Excited about him,” while a fifth added optimistically, “He about to have his best season in his career.”
Some see Grimes as a crucial contributor this season, calling him “the X factor for the Lakers.” Even if he doesn’t start, one fan predicted, “The next Sixth Man of the Year will be from the Lakers.”
Last season, Grimes appeared in 75 games for the 76ers but started only 19. The Lakers now face the challenge of integrating him into a lineup that includes Doncic and Austin Reaves, but his presence certainly offers some relief.
With Doncic dealing with injuries throughout last season and into the playoffs, Grimes could become an invaluable asset for the Lakers moving forward.
Fan Take: Quentin Grimes’ arrival signals a fresh chapter for the Lakers and highlights shifting dynamics in the league’s landscape post-LeBron. Basketball fans should watch closely, as Grimes has the potential to reshape the Lakers’ identity and boost competition at the guard position across the sport.
