Jarrad Branthwaite is optimistic about securing a permanent place in the England national team after missing the Euro 2024 and 2026 World Cup tournaments, following his call-up to the squad.
He has been included in Thomas Tuchel’s roster for the Nations League matches against Spain, Czechia, and Croatia, both at home and away.
This season, Branthwaite has been a crucial player for Everton, contributing to three clean sheets in five matches and helping the team have one of the lowest goals conceded in the Premier League, alongside Leeds United with just three goals.
Branthwaite’s only senior appearance for England came in June 2024 when he was part of Gareth Southgate’s preliminary squad for Euro 2024 and played in a friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina, though he ultimately didn’t make the final cut.
The 24-year-old was also sidelined during the recent World Cup due to an injury-plagued 2025-26 season, where he only made 10 appearances in the Premier League, starting in seven.
However, after consulting a specialist in Germany this off-season to address his ongoing hamstring problems, Branthwaite is eager to compete with Marc Guehi and Ezri Konsa for a starting spot in the England lineup.
“Being out injured for such a long time was challenging, as I missed several training camps and a lot of matches,” Branthwaite reflected on his difficulties with the England team.
“My goal is to remain injury-free, play as many games as possible, and give myself the best shot at being included in the squad.”

Branthwaite, along with Guehi, Konsa, Jarell Quansah, and Trevoh Chalobah, will serve as the centre-backs for England during this international window, with their Nations League opener against world champions Spain set for Saturday at Wembley.
Recently, England has won 10 of their last 11 competitive home matches (L1), including their last five without conceding a goal. The Three Lions have only managed to win six competitive home games in a row without conceding once before, between March 2015 and March 2017.
In contrast, Spain comes into this match with an unbeaten streak of 38 matches across all competitions (W29 D9), the longest by any European nation.
