Things didn’t exactly go Ste Wallwork’s way on Saturday at BKFC 94, and unfortunately, the damage to his face was even more severe. Leigh Cohoon dominated Wallwork during the bout at the AO Arena in Manchester, England, leaving him with a severely swollen and distorted jaw. Wallwork, making his BKFC debut in his hometown, took pride in the experience and the fact the fight was stopped by the doctor, but the long-term effects of the injury remain uncertain.
Wallwork revealed on social media that a ruptured blood vessel in his jaw caused the left side of his face to balloon immediately after the fight was halted. Below are his statement and photos from the event and its aftermath.
In his post, Wallwork reflected, “What a night last night was. I lived a dream fighting in my home city at the M.E.N (AO Arena). I didn’t get the result I wanted, but that’s the nature of the fight game. I have a ruptured vessel in my jaw, which caused the swelling; the doctor stopped it. I would NEVER QUIT—I wanted to keep going, but credit to Leigh & congratulations to him. I want to thank everyone for all the support and kindness I’ve received—very grateful. Big thanks to Ste Wiggins and the big boss Dave Fieldman for including me on the show; it’s been a birthday to remember. Thanks to my coach Kev—we’ve had some tough days—also to Ste, my other coach, and big Scott for their help. Thanks to Mike, my physiotherapist and strength coach, my sponsors, nutritionist, and meal prepper. Thanks to everyone behind the scenes who helped with various things. Shout out to the Mrs. and kids for dealing with my mood swings at times, and shout out to Mart as well. It’s been quite the experience—couple days rest and then back to work. BIG LOVE, THE SPARTAN.”
