Mountain View Farm is excited to reveal that Newgrange, a son of Violence who has won five graded stakes and earned over $1 million, will be joining their stallion lineup in Gansevoort, New York.
A winner in his very first race at age two, Newgrange went on to claim graded stakes victories at ages three, four, and five. He brings breeders a rare blend of early speed, dependable performance, and a strong pedigree that combines the bloodlines of Medaglia d’Oro and Empire Maker.
Mountain View Farm has purchased an ownership stake in Newgrange, further solidifying its partnership with Sequel New York and Kirk Wycoff, both current members of the stallion’s syndicate. Other syndicate stakeholders continue to support Newgrange as he looks forward to siring his first foals in 2027. Additionally, Sequel’s investment in another Mountain View stallion, Imagination, highlights their commitment to the future of these horses and the New York breeding industry as a whole.
David Cannizzo of Mountain View Farm stated, “Newgrange perfectly aligns with our goal of offering New York breeders a Kentucky-quality pedigree complemented by an outstanding racing career. He is a stunning horse who showed early speed by winning on debut at two and maintained top-class form by becoming a five-time graded stakes winner. This combination of pedigree, conformation, and early talent is exactly what we strive to provide our breeders. We eagerly anticipate Newgrange siring precocious, athletic offspring that can make an immediate impact on the track.”
Over the course of 17 races, Newgrange won seven times and finished third four times, amassing earnings of $1,014,584. His graded stakes triumphs include two victories in the Grade 2 San Pasqual Stakes, wins in the G2 San Antonio Stakes, G3 Southwest Stakes, and G3 Sham Stakes.
Newgrange made a striking debut by winning a six-furlong race at Del Mar. Following that, he captured the Sham Stakes at Santa Anita and the Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park, starting his career undefeated in three races and marking himself as a Kentucky Derby prospect. He successfully competed against older horses as well, winning the San Pasqual and San Antonio Stakes at four years old before reclaiming the San Pasqual title at five. His graded wins spanned distances from one mile up to 1⅛ miles.
By Medaglia d’Oro’s son Violence—who has sired over $69.1 million in earnings and 57 black-type winners including 22 graded or group winners—Newgrange comes from a highly successful sire line. Violence’s standout progeny include the champion Forte, a four-time Grade 1 winner with victories such as the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and Florida Derby. Other Grade 1 winners by Violence now standing at stud include Dr. Schivel, Mullikin, No Parole, and Volatile.
Newgrange’s dam, Bella Chianti, although unraced, is by Empire Maker and has produced five winners from her five starters. She is closely related to stakes-placed Zimmer and is a daughter of Bella Chiarra, a nine-time winner who earned $636,088, won the G2 Rampart Handicap, and placed in the G1 Vanity Handicap.
This distinguished female family also features Grade 2 winner Amalfi Sunrise, who won both her two-year-old starts including the G2 Sorrento Stakes, as well as multiple graded stakes winner David Copperfield.
The addition of Newgrange strengthens Mountain View Farm’s breeding program by introducing another multi-graded stakes winner with a deep, influential pedigree to breeders across New York and the Northeast.
Newgrange (by Violence out of Bella Chianti by Empire Maker) will join the ranks of Mountain View’s other stallions: Leinster (by Majestic Warrior out of Vassar by Royal Academy), Imagination (by Into Mischief out of Magical Feeling by Empire Maker), and Fire At Will (by Declaration of War out of Flirt by Kitten’s Joy).
