Keegan Bradley taps Gary Woodland as vice captain of the Final Ryder Cup

US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley named Gary Woodland on Wednesday as his team’s fifth and final vice captain to try and reclaim the trophy from Europe this year at Beth Page Black in New York.

Woodland, 41, counting the 2019 US Open amid four wins on the PGA Tour, has joined Bradley staff with previously appointed Jim Furik, Kevin Kissner, Webb Simpson and Brand Snedeker.

“I have incredible respect and admiration for Gary and everything he accomplished in this game,” Bradley said.

“As a major champion and still a high level of competition, he is well aware of the demands of playing at the biggest stages of golf.”

Woodland appears in his first Ryder Cup as vice captain or player. He represented the United States in Australia’s 2019 Presidential Cup and scored 1-1/2 points in a 16-14 US victory.

In February, Woodland received the PGA Tour Courage Award for 2023 for returning to a full-time competition in the US-based circuit after brain surgery.

“Kegan’s passion for this event is contagious and I’m excited to be a part of it,” Woodland said.

“If we go for more than two months to arrive at Beth Page, we are completely committed to everything we can to help Keegan and our vice captain and the player team.”

The Ryder Cup is scheduled for September 26th-28th. (Reporting by Frank Ping of Toronto)
