Omar Khan is set to remain with the Pittsburgh Steelers for the foreseeable future, having signed a three-year contract extension that lasts through the 2028 season. At 48 years old, Khan has been the Steelers’ general manager since 2022, succeeding Kevin Colbert, and this season marks his 25th year with the franchise.

Steelers President Art Rooney II expressed confidence in Khan, highlighting the impressive roster-building efforts over the last three years through the draft, trades, and free agency. Since Khan took over, he has made significant roster changes, with only a handful of starters from when he assumed the role still on the team, including players like Calvin Austin III, Pat Freiermuth, Cameron Heyward, TJ Watt, Alex Highsmith, Chris Boswell, and long snapper Jon Feliciano.

Known affectionately as the “Khan Artist,” Omar has not been afraid to make bold moves, shaking up the Steelers’ approach to team building. His recent offseason trades included acquiring Pro Bowl receiver DK Metcalf from Seattle in exchange for a second-round pick, trading George Pickens to Dallas along with additional draft picks, and making a major deal with Miami that saw Pro Bowl safety Minkah Fitzpatrick traded away.

These aggressive moves have become a hallmark of the Steelers’ recent offseason activity under Khan. Despite a decent regular season record of 29-22, the Steelers are still seeking their first playoff win in eight years, having gone 0-2 in the postseason since Khan’s appointment. Nevertheless, the contract extension signals Rooney’s trust in Khan’s vision to restore the team among the NFL’s elite.

Khan expressed gratitude for the extension and reiterated his commitment to building a championship team, aspiring to bring another Super Bowl title to Pittsburgh and its passionate fanbase.

Fan Take: This contract extension is crucial for NFL fans as it underscores the Steelers’ commitment to bold, forward-thinking management in a league that rewards innovation and strategic risk-taking. Khan’s aggressive moves and vision for a championship could reignite one of the NFL’s most historic franchises and reshape the competitive landscape in the years ahead.
