Viktor Gyökeres, a forward for Sports CP, shared that his gameplay benefited significantly from the coaching style of Ruben Amorim, stating, “it fits me perfectly.”
Gyökeres, one of Arsenal’s key targets this transfer window, flourished under Amorim’s system until the coach departed to manage Manchester United in November.
“The approach we employed under him was ideal for me,” Gyökeres revealed to French football. In the 2023-24 season, Amorim clinched his first league title in nearly two decades, while Gyökeres was the league’s top scorer, netting 29 goals.
The former Coventry City player concluded the season with an impressive total of 39 goals, contributing to La Liga Portugal’s championship title, which he successfully defended from the prior season.
“We achieved back-to-back championships for the first time in 71 years,” he stated.
“It was a monumental accomplishment, and Reuben Amorim was instrumental in making it happen. I can’t express my gratitude enough.”
Gyökeres expressed surprise at Amorim’s decision to leave mid-season, especially given their success and current standing in the Champions League.
“It was unexpected. I’ve never seen a coach depart when things are going so well. There were no hard feelings, though,” Gyökeres explained. “While it was surprising, I completely understand his choice.”
At 27, Gyökeres is expected to transition to the Premier League this summer from Sports CP.
