In 2025, the Washington Mystics embarked on a new chapter. As Elena Delle Donne’s era came to a close, the team underwent a significant transformation. Thanks to smart trades, the Mystics quickly rebuilt during Delle Donne’s retirement, with two of their three key rookies already earning All-Star honors and playing pivotal roles in the team’s surprising 10-10 record.

Though Sonia Citron didn’t have her best game against the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday, scoring just nine points on 20% shooting, the Mystics still managed a big win, finishing with a 12-2 run to defeat A’ja Wilson’s Aces at Eagle Bank Arena.

Citron and forward Kiki Iriafen will join Caitlin Clark’s squad for the WNBA All-Star Game set for July 19th in Indianapolis. On Lisa Leslie’s “Road of Lines” podcast, Citron expressed her excitement about teaming up with Clark and other stars, highlighting the thrill of new experiences beyond her usual Mystics environment. “I’m excited. We’re young with lots of shooters,” she said, adding that playing with stars like Caitlin and Sabrina Ionescu will be a great opportunity.

Citron is currently the second-highest-scoring rookie in the WNBA with 14.3 points per game, trailing only Paige Bueckers. She’s also second in rebounds behind Iriafen and ranks fifth in steals, showcasing her all-around contribution in her rookie season after a stellar college career at Notre Dame.

With the continued development of Citron and Iriafen, and Georgia Amoore expected back from a knee injury in 2026, the Mystics’ future looks very promising.

Fan Take: This news highlights the exciting influx of young talent rejuvenating the Mystics and the league as a whole. For WNBA fans, it signals a new era of competitiveness and star power, promising thrilling seasons ahead and growth for the sport.
