Wimbledon, England — Veronica Kudermetova teamed up with Elise Mertens to win the women’s doubles final at Wimbledon on Sunday, winning the rally by beating Sway Fusier and Jelena Ostapenko 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 on the Centre Court.

Kudermetova and Mertens were on the other side in the 2021 final, but they were playing together for the first time this year at Wimbledon. They chased 4-2 in the third set, but won the final four games and sealed off the comeback.

It is Mertens’ fifth Grand Slam Doubles title and second at Wimbledon. In 2021, she teamed up with Hsieh to win the marathon final, saving two match points with Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina.

“I lost that final and it was very painful,” Kudermetova said. “I told myself today, I really want it. And it’s mine now.”

Hsieh has won the Wimbledon Doubles title four times with three different partners.

Ostapenko was looking for a second major doubles title after winning the 2017 French Open single title and the US Open last year at Lyudmyla Kichenok.
