Crawford hopes Silverstone F2 wins boosted F1 chances

Jak Crawford believes his victory in the Formula 2 feature race at Silverstone displays what he can do for both the Aston Martin of Cadillac and the potential suitor.

The American is the development driver for Aston Martin and is understood to be in the frame to compete for the F2 title later this year to get an FP1 outing. Crawford also linked to the new Cadillac team, which has yet to complete the 2026 driver lineup, so he felt the victory wet under severe pressure from Silverstone McLaren youth Alex Dunn.

“I think a race like (Silverstone) is perfect to show what I have,” Crawford said. “(It’s) one of the trickiest races with Alex, who is highly regarded, and Luke (Browning) right behind me, so I think it was the perfect race to show you you can drive in rainy weather conditions.

The victory brought Crawford to second place in the F2 Drivers Championship, and in his third victory of the season, he scored just six points to leader Richard Bellshore.

“The surprising timing was when we needed to push for the championship,” he noted. “It felt like a big weekend of my championship with Alex and I was basically tied up by points and Richard started the field.

“I managed to run and get a win. What a day, a few general days for the championship. My second home race – obviously I wasn’t racing in the US – it was a great day.

“After the next race, we were able to lead the championship, so we’re in it now. After Austria, I felt like I was in the back. We had to come to Silverstone and make a statement and score big points. That’s exactly what we did.”

In addition to bidding for the F2 title, Crawford is also a reserve driver for Andretti’s Formula E team, appearing this week in the Berlin Rookie Test for the TWG Motorsport-owned team.
