The initial reason behind Kelsey Plum’s selection for the WNBA All-Star weekend was first reported by ClutchPoints.

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Sparks faced a challenging and inconsistent first half of the WNBA season. Yet, after defeating the Washington Mystics 99-80, the Sparks matched their total win count from last season with eight victories. Kelsey Plum expressed optimism about the team’s pace, which she believes is a key factor in surpassing last season’s win totals following the All-Star break.

After the Sparks’ win over the Mystics on Tuesday, Plum shared her thoughts on the momentum the team is building heading into the All-Star break and the importance of maintaining this energy once the season resumes.

"I thought we played our best tonight. The stats back it up with the pace we set, the ball movement, and the quality shots we took," Plum said. "We want to keep it up, defend aggressively, be physical, and protect our home court. This is a great chance to build momentum."

The Sparks have secured two consecutive wins, including games against the Connecticut Sun and Mystics, finishing their three-game homestand with a 2-1 record before the break. While most of her teammates will rest and take vacations, Plum will not.

As the Sparks’ sole All-Star and participant in the 3-Point Contest, Plum will be competing this weekend in Indianapolis. She noted the importance of taking a break while also appreciating the time the team uses for preparation and growth.

"It feels great to start a break with a win, especially after a hectic schedule for everyone in the league. This break allows us to reset and remember what these feelings of success feel like."

In her first season with the Sparks, Plum has been a standout performer, although the season has also been a period of adjustment. After their win over the Mystics, head coach Lynn Roberts explained how he encouraged the team to play out of their comfort zones this season.

"I asked them to play in ways they hadn’t before, and it takes time. I’m thankful they embraced the challenge."

Plum has embraced her leadership role, a shift since her time with the Las Vegas Aces. She has averaged just over 35 minutes per game across 20 games, putting up 20.1 points, 3.1 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 35% from beyond the arc.

Following the All-Star break, the Sparks will embark on a three-game road trip with stops in Washington, Connecticut, and New York before finishing the month against the Aces.

Fan Take: Kelsey Plum’s rising star and leadership signal an exciting future for the Sparks and the WNBA as a whole. Her momentum and dedication during the All-Star break could inspire a strong finish to the season, elevating competition and fan engagement across the league.
