Mark Marquez Opens Up About His Private Conversation with Jorge Martin: “As a Companion…”

Marc Marquez shared details about his conversation with Jorge Martin during the latter’s injury recovery. Jorge Martin, who started racing with Aprilia this season after clinching the 2024 title with Pramac Ducati, missed nearly all preseason testing after crashing on the first day of the Sepang test in February. The Spanish rider was then sidelined for the first three rounds of the season due to a training crash that resulted in a bone fracture before the opening Grand Prix in Thailand. Upon returning to Qatar, Martin sustained a third injury after crashing in the race and being involved in an incident with Fabio di Giannantonio.

Martin made a comeback to MotoGP at Brno this weekend and revealed in a press conference at the Czech Grand Prix that he had spoken with Marquez during his recovery. Marquez, who himself missed most of the 2020 season due to a broken humerus, shared that he used his own tough injury experiences from 2021 and 2022 to try to encourage Martin in his comeback. “Jorge is, of course, a rival but ultimately a fellow rider, a very talented competitor and champion,” Marquez told Motogp.com. “As part of the MotoGP community, we want to support everyone. I understood how it feels to be at home with multiple injuries. I tried to be honest and offer the best advice, but ultimately, the people around you make a big difference.”

In practice at Brno, Martin finished the first day with the fifth fastest time, while Marquez was among the quickest on the track.

Fan Take: This story highlights the strong camaraderie and respect among top riders, even amid fierce competition. For racing fans, it’s a reminder that behind the intensity of the sport lies human endurance and solidarity, which can inspire both current and future generations in MotoGP.
