Nevada Athletic Committee Halts Shawn Strickland Following Assault on Local Fighter Jets

Sean Strickland is currently facing disciplinary action from the Nevada State Athletic Commission following a confrontation in June. He was initially suspended after an altercation involving local fighters during an event in Las Vegas, and his suspension is likely to be extended at the upcoming committee meeting on Wednesday, according to MMA Fighting. The full extent of Strickland’s punishment, which might include a prolonged suspension or fines, will be decided later.

The incident occurred on June 29th when Strickland and his teammate Chris Curtis, who were coaching fighter Miles Hunsinger at a Tough event, confronted undefeated prospect Louis Hernandez after Hernandez won against Hunsinger. Strickland approached Hernandez aggressively and threw several strikes before security stepped in to restore order.

Despite the incident, Hernandez expressed that he harbors no ill feelings towards Strickland or Curtis and hopes the commission doesn’t enforce harsh penalties on them. Hernandez stated, “I don’t want these guys to have anything happen because I actually like them. I hope the committee doesn’t bring this out from them.”

Fan Take: This situation highlights the intense emotions and high stakes involved in MMA, but it also raises concerns about maintaining professionalism and safety in the sport. For fans, it’s a reminder that fighters’ actions outside the cage can impact their careers and the sport’s reputation, making disciplinary measures crucial for preserving respect and fairness in MMA.
