Terry Rosier Faces Federal Probe Over Eligibility of 30 Bets in March 2023 46-Minute Match

Terry Rozier has reportedly been cleared by the NBA of any fraud related to gambling allegations, though the federal investigation still involves experienced security personnel. Since the initial report on March 23, 2023, the game in question has remained under intense scrutiny due to unusual betting patterns. Rozier was linked to 30 bets placed in a span of just 46 minutes during a game between the Charlotte Hornets and the New Orleans Pelicans, all betting that he would perform under his statistical projections for points, rebounds, and assists.

According to investigation documents, a total of $13,759 was wagered on Rozier’s performance on that day. The betting activity was highly suspicious and triggered alerts to six sportsbooks and the NBA by the US Integrity monitoring agency. This prompt warning led a major sportsbook to halt all prop bets on Rozier within an hour. Rozier exited the game after just 10 minutes due to a foot injury, finishing with five points, four rebounds, and two assists—numbers that all fell short of the betting lines, resulting in all 30 bets winning.

The NBA conducted an investigation and found no violation of league rules by Rozier, resulting in reports of his clearance. His lawyer confirmed to ESPN that Rozier is no longer involved in the federal investigation, though a representative from the US Attorney’s Office declined to confirm or deny Rozier’s status. The broader probe has implicated other players and teams, including Toronto Raptors forward John Tayporter, who faced a felony charge and an NBA lifetime ban, and free agent Malik Beasley, who is under federal and NBA investigation but has not been charged.

Further reporting by Yahoo Sports and Meadowlark Media revealed aliases used by Rozier, Tayporter, and Beasley, including the nickname “Moose” linked with some gambling activities. Rozier did not participate in the Hornets’ remaining eight games after the March 2023 match. He has since been traded to the Miami Heat, where, from 2025 to 2026, he is under contract for $26.6 million. During his two seasons with the Heat, he has averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, hitting 32% from beyond the arc.

Fan Take: This news is significant for basketball fans because it highlights ongoing concerns about the integrity of the sport amidst gambling scandals. While Rozier’s clearance might bring some relief, the wider investigation signals that the NBA must remain vigilant to protect the game’s fairness and reputation.
