Manchester United could be preparing to restart a chapter that seemed to have ended just a few months ago.
After more than a year away on loan from Old Trafford, one of the club’s most prominent academy graduates will return in pre-season and is expected to discuss whether he can rebuild his career under manager Michael Carrick.
Things have changed drastically since the breakup with former head coach Ruben Amorim.
Carrick’s arrival opens the possibility of a return to the first team, but United remain open to a permanent transfer if they receive the right offer.
The upcoming negotiations will therefore be important for both the player’s future and the club’s attacking plans.
Carrick could open door for Rashford to return to Man United
Marcus Rashford will speak directly to Carrick after England’s World Cup campaign concludes, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 28-year-old has already informed United of his availability for pre-season and plans to rejoin the squad first before both parties consider any offers that may arrive.
The Guardian reported that there were no personal issues between Rashford and Carrick.
He added that while United are hopeful of the forward’s return, he is still considering leaving the club permanently and has no interest in taking him out on another loan.
Rashford has contracts with Aston Villa and Barcelona until 2028.
A fresh start may suit both parties
United have contacted Rashford’s agent to confirm that he will be included in Carrick’s pre-season group. Barcelona declined to trigger the buy option, leaving his long-term future unresolved.
Manchester United should give Rashford a real chance to impress before making a final decision.
Carrick will provide a fresh tactical environment, while the motivated Rashford will provide pace, goals and valuable Premier League experience.
However, the club cannot control the situation by relying on emotions. If Rashford does not fully commit, or if an attractive permanent offer arrives, a clean separation could remain the best outcome for everyone.
