TORONTO – Vasek Pospisil, who won the Wimbledon Men’s Doubles title and helped Canada win the Davis Cup, will retire from tennis after playing in the Toronto Tournament next week.

“18 years of professional tennis. I look forward to playing in Toronto one last time in front of you,” Pospisil, 35, posted on social media on Monday.

Pospisil is a champion of the tour players and worked with Novak Jjokovic to form the Professional Tennis Players Association. It filed a class action lawsuit in federal court in New York against several groups running the sport.

Pospisil was part of the Canadian team that paired with Jack Sock to win the Wimbledon Championship in 2014 and the Davis Cup title in 2022.

The Hard Court Master Event held in Canada awarded Pospisil a wildcard entry.

“It’s never easy to make a decision like this,” he said. “Tennis has been a huge part of my life, but it has become clear that it’s a time of deserving a runaway, both mentally and physically.”
