Geneva – British coach Sarina Wiegman expressed that her team’s journey in Euro 2025 resembles that of a film.

The Lionesses showcased their tenacity against Italy, forcing extra time with a late equalizer from Michelle Agyeeman, followed by Chloe Kelly scoring the winning goal in the 119th minute, sealing a 2-1 victory and a spot in the final.

This match set a new record for the latest winning goal in Women’s Euro history, surpassing the Netherlands’ 102nd-minute goal against France in the 2022 quarterfinals.

After a chaotic penalty shootout against Sweden, England only required five minutes of extra time to secure victory in the knockout stage. Wiegman described their performance in these two matches as “unbelievable.”

“I’m going to make a film one day! This is the storyline, incredible,” Wiegman told the BBC. “We’re back again; it’s truly special.”

When asked if she enjoyed the film-like ending, she replied, “It was dramatic, but yes, I enjoyed it.”

England relied on their substitutes once more, as Beth Mead, Agyeeman, and Kelly played pivotal roles in the second half.

“I’m not sure if I’ll make changes at the right moment,” Wiegman commented. “We wait for the right impact. When we score, we need to find a rhythm that slows the tempo a bit.”

“We had good chances, but we were missing that final touch, so we were patient.”

Agyeeman emerged as a key player for England once again. Her last-minute equalizer against Sweden saved the Lionesses from elimination.

“She’s an unstoppable force right now,” said captain Leah Williamson about her Arsenal teammate. “Her quality is undeniable, making her a challenge for opponents. I’m proud to have her on our team both at the club and nationally. She deserves all the accolades.”

“I hope she enjoys this moment and is ready for the weekend,” Williamson added.

Wiegman expressed her satisfaction with Agyeeman’s performance.

“She possesses something exceptional,” Wiegman stated. “At just 19, she’s incredibly mature and knows precisely what to do. Her ability to learn quickly makes her a significant threat not only in the 18-yard box but also as a target player.”

“Even when I saw her shot strike the crossbar, it wasn’t just a strike; she was aiming for it. If she continues on this path, she has a very promising future ahead.”

Kelly also praised Agyeeman:

Kelly’s presentation was another match-winning highlight for the recent super sub. Having scored the winning goal in the Euro 2022 Finals, she once again made a crucial impact at Euro 2025. She helped England equalize against Sweden and scored the decisive goal that saved them from another penalty shootout.

Reflecting on the match, Kelly recounted how she nearly walked away from football in January after requesting to leave Manchester City. However, her loan spell at Arsenal, which later became a permanent move, rejuvenated her career and led to her contributions in the Euros.

“Looking back on those moments from January when I felt like quitting, I’m truly grateful for what happened today,” Kelly said. “They make every moment worth it.”

“Confidence can stem from within as well as from those around you. The teammates I share the pitch with bring a lot of belief and positivity. But personal growth is crucial too.”

She delivered yet again, propelling England into another major final.

“I can hardly believe what transpired—the faith, resilience, and unity within this squad is extraordinary,” Kelly remarked. “I’m proud to represent England.”

**Fan Take:** This exhilarating win not only showcases the Lionesses’ emergence but also highlights the growing quality and excitement in women’s soccer. For fans, this moment signals a bright future for the sport and further elevates its profile on the global stage.
