The NFL seems to be unveiling new uniforms and helmets almost daily, with nearly half the league updating their gear for the 2025 season. Teams like the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have introduced new alternate uniforms this summer, largely due to the NFL’s new “rivals” program in partnership with Nike. Starting this season and continuing over the next four years, each team will reveal uniforms inspired by their rivalries, similar to Nike’s MLB City Connects and NBA City Edition series. The first to debut these rival uniforms are the AFC East (Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, New York Jets) and the NFC West (Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks).

The Seattle Seahawks have been teasing their new jerseys all week, which will be worn against NFC West rivals like the Cardinals, Rams, and 49ers. The Green Bay Packers, one of the NFL’s oldest teams, will celebrate their heritage with a “1923 Classic” jersey featuring navy blue, brown, and yellow colors, though the exact game schedule for this uniform is yet to be announced. The Cleveland Browns, famous for their orange helmets, will experiment with brown helmets covered by the sponsor Dude Wipes in three home games this season. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills are bringing back their iconic red helmets for Week 18, a nod to the design used between 1987 and 2010.

The New Orleans Saints are adding to their uniform collection with a new “Gameday Gold” jersey featuring gold with black accents, plus a new helmet with traditional logos and gold stripes meant to be worn with white jerseys. The Pittsburgh Steelers are going retro with a 1933 throwback uniform from their days as the Pittsburgh Pirates, using yellow jerseys with black accents and tanned pants. The Chargers introduce the “Charger Power” alternate jersey in yellow with a white helmet, while the Tampa Bay Buccaneers revive their 1976 “Creamsicle” uniforms for their 2025 home opener to celebrate the franchise’s 50th season.

The Washington Commanders bring back their Super Bowl-winning look with a white jersey, burgundy and gold accents, and helmets resembling those from their championship years, to be worn three times in 2025. Each team’s fresh or throwback designs offer fans new ways to connect with their team’s history and rivalries, making the uniforms more than just attire but a celebration of legacy and competition.

Fan Take: This surge in new and throwback uniforms brings fresh excitement to NFL fans, blending nostalgia with innovative design. These changes deepen the connection to team histories and rivalries, enhancing the visual spectacle of the sport and keeping the game fresh on and off the field.
