Liverpool manager Arne Slot confirmed that forward Luis Diaz did not participate in a friendly match against AC Milan on Saturday, fueling ongoing rumors about his potential departure from Anfield this summer.

According to sources, the Colombian international is keen to leave Liverpool during the current transfer window and hopes that Bayern Munich will make a renewed offer after the Premier League champions turned down a bid of €67.5 million ($79.2 million).

Despite being part of Liverpool’s 29-man squad for the preseason Asia Tour, Diaz was absent from Saturday’s opening match.

“There’s been a lot of speculation about him lately, but I can’t discuss it,” Slot stated during a press conference. “He trains well with us, but for now, we’ve opted not to play him.”

Slot mentioned that he had discussions with Diaz regarding the situation, saying, “I communicate regularly with most players. As I mentioned, Lucho trains really well, but I decided against including him in this match.”

When asked about Diaz’s future at Liverpool, Slot remarked, “That’s not something I can address.”

Last season, Diaz had a standout campaign, scoring 17 goals and contributing to Liverpool’s Premier League title win. However, it’s reported that the 28-year-old has expressed to club officials a desire to pursue other opportunities.

Liverpool has also turned down an offer from Barcelona earlier this summer, according to sources.

Darwin Núñez was also absent from Saturday’s match amid transfer speculation, but Slot clarified that the Uruguayan striker’s absence was due to a fitness concern. Wataru End was in the same situation.

“In Darwin’s case, he trained very well and had some strong performances this season, but he was injured, so we didn’t want to take any chances,” Slot explained. “The same goes for End. He trained with us for a week, but we chose to be cautious. I believe both will be ready for our next game in Japan.”

Liverpool’s next match is against Yokohama F. Marinos on Wednesday.

Information from Rodra on ESPN was referenced in this report.

Fan Take: This news is critical for soccer fans as it highlights the ongoing player transfer drama that shapes club dynamics and competitive edge. Diaz’s potential exit could significantly impact Liverpool’s lineup and performance in the upcoming season, making it essential for supporters to closely follow his situation and its ramifications on the broader football landscape.
