Sainz, Hamilton, Antonelli, Alonso to start the Belgian Grand Prix from the pits

Four drivers will begin the Belgian Grand Prix from the pit lane after multiple power unit penalties and setup changes.

Carlos Sainz is the highest-ranked driver in the modified qualifying order, with mechanical and aerodynamic setup changes made to Williams, who needs to start the pit lane rather than the 15th grid spot. Sainz reached the second quarter on Saturday, with three quarter casualties taking part in the pit lane.

Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Antoneri and Fernando Alonso were 16th and qualified on the 18th and 19th, but all three have adopted new power units that require a start in the pit lane to break PARC Ferme regulations. The new power units also mean that the trio exceeds seasonal limits and teams are taking advantage of low grid slots to expand the pool.

Sainz starts in the pit lane with Hamilton, Antonelli and Alonso qualified in that order, but Franco Cora Pinto is promoted to 15th on the grid, and Lance is originally the slowest in qualifying, so he will take a walk in 16th place.

After a wet morning at Spa Franco Champ, a break in the rain allowed the track to dry significantly in the hours before the race, but more intense showers are predicted before lights out at 9am local time (ET).
