Newcastle has had a disastrous summer transfer window up until now, but there are signs that things are getting better. Club officials are eager to add a new signature to Eddie Howe’s team, and the second arrival after Anthony Elanga could soon happen.
In recent weeks, Newcastle has been rejected by many targets, including Joao Pedro, Hugo Ekitike and James Trafford. The latter was the first choice choice to strengthen the goalkeeper’s position, and after that snub they turned their attention to another British man, Aaron Ramsdale.
It was reported Monday that Newcastle has begun consultations to sign Ramsdale, which will be available this summer following Southampton’s relegation to the championship. And it appears that the transaction is heading in the right direction.
Newcastle is confident that it will close Aaron Ramsdale’s deal
Fabrizio Romano has made it clear that a deal is expected to reach Southampton in a few days/week, while providing further details on Newcastle’s pursuit of Ramsdale.
“Aaron Ramsdale has already said yes to Newcastle and the official bid has been sent to Southampton. High loan fees, payroll compensation and purchase options clauses.
Newcastle supporters are impressed with Nick Pope’s distribution, and Eddie Howe is after a performance that suits his style of play. Ramsdale checks these boxes, but there are fans with some reservations about the former Arsenal goalkeeper.
Given the well-documented PSR issues, signing a loan to Ramsdale with the option to buy in 2026 is a huge amount for Newcastle. It is still unclear whether an agreement with Southampton will be reached, but at this stage there is a great chance that the 27-year-old, who has appeared in the UK five times, will move northeast.
