  • Man United wants to sign Watkins using Garnacho
  • Reuben Amorim is looking for a reliable goal scorer

Manchester United is believed to be considering a sensational player and cash offer for Aston Villa prolific frontman Ollie Watkins, and rising star Alejandro Garnacho could be included in the deal.

The move, reported by independent Miguel Delaney, underscored the growing need for United to strengthen its frontlines, while at the same time balancing the book amidst the limitations of the Financial Justice Theory (FFP).

Garnacho’s future at Old Trafford is becoming increasingly uncertain, and the Argentine winger is not considered a guaranteed part of the club’s first team plan.

United decision makers are reportedly open to using the 21-year-old as a negotiation tip for the negotiations to seduce Watkins from Villa Park.

There are two rationales behind this bold approach. First of all, Watkins, who earns £130,000 a week at Villa Park, fits the bill as an experienced and trustworthy Premier League striker.

England International has double-digit league goals in each of its five seasons at Villa, making it an attractive solution to United’s ongoing scoring disaster.

Second, clubs are trying to generate “pure profits” through player sales in order to continue to comply with FFP rules.

Man United is under pressure to find consistent goal scorers after the frontline struggles throughout the 2024/25 campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed a total of seven league goals together last season, demonstrating the need for a more clinical finisher at the top of the pitch.

Aston Villa has not shown any interest in breaking up with Watkins, especially at the start of a new season, but United’s potential package can bring them to the negotiation table.

Apart from Watkins, the Red Devils are also monitoring RB Leipzig’s attacker Benjamin Sesco.
