Chicago Sky Rises Swiftly Following Angel Reese’s Injury Announcement

Chicago Sky will receive timely support following Angel Reese’s injury update, originally reported by Athlon Sports.

After delivering an impressive performance with 22 points and 13 rebounds in Chicago Sky’s recent 103-86 defeat against the Washington Mystics on Tuesday, Angel Reese will sit out again for Friday’s game against the Golden State Valkyries. Both Reese and another All-Star have been ruled out of this match due to a back injury, which also caused Reese to miss two consecutive games before the Mystics matchup. It remains uncertain whether Reese will be fit to play in Sunday’s game against the Phoenix Mercury.

The good news for Sky supporters is that despite missing Reese, the team will gain some reinforcement on the frontlines with Sevgi Uzun. Coach Tyler Marsh confirmed Uzun—who joined Chicago on Monday—will make her debut against Golden State, with fans likely to see a few minutes of her on the court.

Uzun, a 5-foot-10 guard in her second WNBA season, previously played for the Dallas Wings and was involved in a complex multi-team trade during the offseason. She appeared in seven games for the Phoenix Mercury this season, averaging 1.6 points and 2.0 assists in 14.6 minutes off the bench before being waived on June 2nd.

While Uzun isn’t expected to play a major role immediately, her arrival comes at a crucial time for the Sky, who are also missing Haley Van Lis (ankle) and Ariel Atkins (legs) for the Valkyries game. Additionally, Courtney Vandersloot continues her recovery from an ACL injury sustained at the end of last season.

Fan Take: This update is critical for WNBA fans as it highlights the ongoing challenges of player injuries impacting team dynamics mid-season. Having a fresh face like Sevgi Uzun step in offers hope and excitement while underscoring the resilience and depth within the league that keeps the competition thrilling.
