Winsidr’25 Power Rankings Unveiled: Dive into Volume 6 Insights!

A significant point in the season is nearing as we start to explore the upcoming playoff scenarios.

With the trade deadline fast approaching this week, I’ve included a special feature in our power rankings: each team’s rank is accompanied by questions they must face regarding the trade deadline. These questions might involve decisions about acquiring or trading picks and players or strategies to stay the course. It’s important to note that the new Collective Bargaining Agreement expired after the season, meaning many players signed contracts with that in mind. While this trade deadline might not trigger as many player movements as usual, it could be the most crucial for the trades mentioned above.

As a reminder, these rankings are based on the votes of WinSIDR teams, who regularly assess where each team stands throughout the regular season. You’ll see each team listed with their overall record and their performance since the last power ranking update.

Enjoy!

13. Connecticut Sun (5-22) – 2-3 recently
Question: How many players will be leaving Uncasville?
The Sun have struggled all season, and recent results haven’t improved much. Marina Mabry might be their most intriguing trade candidate, while players like Bria Hartley and Lindsay Allen might also be on the move. This week could involve focusing on developing young talent and acquiring valuable draft picks.

12. Chicago Sky (7-21) – 0-6
Question: What’s their road back to relevance?
Though they’re on a losing streak and have some cumbersome contracts, their strategy remains unclear. Without owning their first-round draft pick (which belongs to Minnesota), their options seem limited. Their challenge is how to shed contracts and gain draft assets to spark a turnaround next season.

11. Dallas Wings (8-21) – 2-4
Question: How do they increase playing time for young players?
Dallas has experienced ups and downs lately. Having started a rebuild by trading Dijonai Carrington for picks and young assets like Diamond Miller and Carly Samuelson, they’re now focused on giving more opportunities to younger players like Ogunbowale and Bueckers.

10. Washington Mystics (13-15) – 2-4
Question: Which direction best secures their future?
Coach Sydney Johnson has exceeded expectations, keeping the team competitive. Nearing playoff contention, the team must decide whether to trade veterans, push for the postseason, or focus on giving their youth playoff experience.

9. Los Angeles Sparks (12-15) – 4-1
Question: Who can they add to strengthen their bench?
The Sparks have improved significantly, especially after Cameron Brink’s return, yet their bench struggles to contribute scoring. Adding a reliable bench player could help solidify their playoff push.

8. Golden State Valkyrie (14-14) – 4-2
Question: Can they leverage their cap space to enhance their playoff rotation?
Golden State rebounded nicely after a rough patch. With ample cap room, they face the dilemma of whether to break team chemistry to add impactful players and improve their playoff prospects.

7. Las Vegas Aces (15-14) – 4-3
Question: Can they find the offensive spark needed to secure their playoff spot?
Surprisingly close to missing the playoffs, Las Vegas has struggled offensively. Limited cap space and draft capital mean any scoring boosts will likely have to come from within the team.

6. Seattle Storm (16-13) – 2-4
Question: Are there offensive players available externally to complement their stellar defense?
Despite recent losses, Seattle’s defense keeps them competitive. Shedding Alisha Clark’s contract could free up salary cap space to pursue offensive reinforcements.

5. Phoenix Mercury (17-11) – 2-4
Question: Can they improve their three-point shooting?
The Mercury have struggled from deep lately, contributing to their recent poor record. While major trades are unlikely, bolstering their outside shooting could elevate their competitiveness.

4. Indiana Fever (17-12) – 5-1
Question: How do they maintain and build team trust?
The Fever have been surging, incorporating new signing Chloe Bibby. With limited roster flexibility, their focus is on integrating Bibby and strengthening team chemistry as they fight for a solid playoff seed.

3. Atlanta Dream (18-11) – 5-2
Question: How can they continue to develop defensively?
Despite injuries to star Rhyne Howard, Atlanta has stayed strong, thanks to coaching by Carl Smesko. With limited cap space and few trade options, their improvements will come from internal development.

2. New York Liberty (18-10) – 3-4
Question: How soon will the team recover from injuries?
The Liberty have faced setbacks due to injuries, but their depth looks stronger this season. With additions like Emma Meesseman, a healthy roster could make them serious playoff contenders.

1. Minnesota Lynx (24-5) – 4-1
Question: When will their playoff journey begin?
The Lynx have strengthened their roster and remain the top regular-season team. Staying healthy and maintaining their form should set them up for an extended playoff run.
