Jerry Jones Reveals No Contact with Mika Parsons Following Trade Request

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was seen close to star Edge Rusher Mika Parsons during a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday in Oxnard, California. However, this physical closeness did not advance contract negotiations for the Cowboys’ top defensive player. Jones revealed he has not talked to Parsons or his agent, David Murgueta, since Parsons requested a new deal last Friday. It remains uncertain if Parsons will play in the Cowboys’ season debut against the Philadelphia Eagles on September 4th.

Jones emphasized that most decisions regarding Parsons’ status are the player’s own, expressing urgency but no breakthrough. Over the weekend, Parsons publicly pushed for a contract extension, reflecting growing frustration with the stalled talks. Despite this, Jones reassured fans that Parsons has not been traded and urged them not to worry about the situation.

The Cowboys and Parsons are currently at an impasse over a contract that, if settled, would make Parsons one of the highest-paid non-quarterbacks in the NFL. Parsons, 26, is in the final year of his rookie deal, valued at $24 million. Parsons did not participate in practice Tuesday, continuing his holdout and watched from the sidelines wearing his number 11 jersey. He was seen speaking with former Rams offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth, who has been a mentor to him.

Jones mentioned a prior informal agreement with Parsons earlier this year, which was not formalized with Parsons’ agents present. While acknowledging the need for a written contract, Jones said renegotiations are ongoing. He described Parsons as exceptionally talented and intelligent, noting their close social interactions and mutual development.

Fan Take: This contract standoff highlights the increasing power of young stars in the NFL as they seek fair compensation in a rapidly evolving salary landscape. The resolution of this deal could set precedents for future negotiations and impact team dynamics league-wide, keeping fans keenly interested in how franchises manage player relations.
