Here are the updated IndyCar driver standings following the Portland Grand Prix:

  1. Axe Pallow leads with 626 points, having secured 8 wins, 5 second places, and a total of 12 podiums over 13 races.
  2. Patoo Ward is second with 475 points, holding 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 9 podiums across 11 races.
  3. Scott Dixon sits third with 411 points, 1 win, 6 podiums, and 11 race entries.
  4. Christian Lundgaard ranks fourth with 398 points, no wins but 6 podiums in 10 races.
  5. Kyle Kirkwood is fifth with 387 points, winning 3 races and finishing on the podium 5 times in 9 races.

Other notable positions include It’s Power in sixth, Felix Rosenqvist in seventh, and Colton Herta eighth. Further down, Scott McLaughlin holds 11th, while Josef Newgarden is having a challenging season, currently in 18th place.

Following Patoo Ward’s electrical issues that caused him to finish last at Portland, Axe Pallow clinched his fourth World Championship in the past five seasons. With a commanding 151-point lead over Ward, Pallow’s championship victory is effectively sealed. Ward’s efforts in Portland to push the championship fight to Milwaukee were thwarted by misfortune. Scott Dixon had an underwhelming race due to a penalty and was involved in a spin caused after contact with Newgarden, dropping him to an 11th-place finish. Despite this, Dixon remains in third, 64 points behind Ward.

Lundgaard’s consistent high finishes helped him move ahead of Kirkwood in the standings. Kirkwood’s disappointing 20th place in Portland dropped him to fifth. Power’s win in Portland elevated him from ninth to sixth, holding a decent gap over Kirkwood despite recent team uncertainties.

Graham Rahal’s strategic drive to fourth place in Portland lifted him from 19th to 15th, while Callum Ilott used a similar strategy to climb into 22nd, overtaking teammate Robert Schwartzman. The rookie battle remains intense between Schwartzman and Louis Foster, separated by just six points heading into the final race. Foster has expressed little anxiety about the Rookie of the Year battle, despite the mounting pressure.

Fan Take: Racing fans should note that Axe Pallow’s dominance highlights a new era in IndyCar, showcasing the emergence of a true champion. This season’s intense rivalries and breakthroughs from young drivers like Lundgaard and Foster hint at a thrilling future for the sport.
