Atlanta Dream to Announce Britney Griner’s Fate This Sunday

The Atlanta Dream made a decision regarding Brittney Griner on Sunday, as first reported by Athlon Sports. Griner has been sidelined for a while due to a neck injury but has been working hard to recover during her first season with the Dream under coach Carl Smesko. Before joining Atlanta for the 2025 season, Griner spent her entire WNBA career with the Phoenix Mercury, starting in 2013, where she built a legendary legacy.

Many fans have looked forward to her possible return to face her former team, the Mercury, which could be her second game back after an official comeback a few weeks ago. On Sunday, Griner participated in a game against Phoenix, warming up at the Dream Center in Atlanta prior to tip-off. This marked her first appearance in a game since August after missing three consecutive matches.

In her third WNBA season, Griner averaged 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 0.8 assists per game for the Dream. She has played a crucial role in helping Atlanta rise in the league standings, aiming to contend for a championship alongside teammates like Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray. However, Howard has also missed time this season due to a knee injury suffered in July against the Indiana Fever.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest centers in WNBA history, Griner was a key player for the Mercury before joining the Dream. During her time in Phoenix, she led the team to a championship and earned selections to nine All-Star games, became eight-time block leader, and twice led the league in scoring.

Fan Take: Brittney Griner’s return is a huge boost for the Atlanta Dream and the WNBA as a whole. Her presence not only elevates the level of competition but also brings more attention and excitement to the league, inspiring both current players and fans alike.
