Cincinnati – Carlos Alcaraz won the Cincinnati open title just over 20 minutes on Monday after top-ranked Janik Sinner was forced to retire due to illness in the first set.

In the fourth final of the year, Thinner, the first meeting since Wimbledon, was delayed 5-0 in the first set with nine unforced errors. He was seen holding an ice pack in his head during the break and retired after playing just 22 minutes.

Thinner, who turned 24 on Saturday, has won in a row in a row in 12 games, with 26 consecutive wins on the hard court. He had bid to become the first player to win consecutive men’s Cincinnati Open titles since Roger Federer in 2014 and ’15.

Ranked second, Alcaraz currently has a 9-5 advantage against Italian.

Thinner won four sets at Wimbledon, while the Spaniards won five sets of thrillers at the French Open, winning straight sets at the Masters in Rome in May.

It was the third time the top two male players met at the Cincinnati Open Finals. Novak Djokovic in the final place, and Alkaraz in 2022, and No. 1 Federer and No. 2 Djokovic in 2012.

The Cincinnati Open is considered a tune-up for the US Open, which begins Sunday in New York. Over the past two years, both the men’s and women’s Cincinnati Open champions have won the final Grand Slam Tournament of the Year.
