  • Liverpool in direct contact with Bournemouth to sign Antoine Semenyo
  • Liverpool’s attacking line has struggled this season.

Antoine Semenyo is a player in great demand after an explosive start to the new Premier League season.

Several clubs have hinted at a possible move, including Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool.

Manchester United’s interest in the attacker dates back to the summer, with manager Ruben Amorim reportedly even meeting Semenyo in person to try to persuade him to join the Red Devils.

Spurs are also a club that has been linked with the Cherries star, while Liverpool have also been linked with the player recently and are seen as the frontrunners to sign him.

A few days ago, it was reported that Liverpool had contacted them about the player’s availability and that Bournemouth were willing to sell him for a suitable price.

The latest update from transfer official Indi Kaira says Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has been in direct contact with Bournemouth regarding the 25-year-old.

According to Indy, Liverpool are currently in the lead in the race to sign the Ghana international, who could be snapped up in the January transfer window for a fee of close to £100m, but next summer’s transfer fee will be slightly lower, at £70m, enough to land him.

“Exclusive! Liverpool lead the race to sign Antoine Semenyo. £90m-£100m in January, £70m in summer.”

“Richard Hughes is in direct contact with Bournemouth. Big news!”

Liverpool’s attacking line has struggled this season.

The update will be a huge boost for Liverpool fans who have seen their team struggle offensively this season despite spending heavily in the summer.

The attack on the left side has not changed since Luis Diaz left. Kodi Gakpo was never a real threat on the wing, while Mo Salah was a far cry from his original, glorious self.

He has scored six goals and provided three assists in nine games so far, making him the second-leading scorer behind Erling Haaland.

His explosive start to the season has taken his total for Bournemouth to 28 goals and 13 assists in 97 games.

Semenyo’s biggest feature is his versatility to play in the front three.

Liverpool may have found the player closest to Sadio Mane in terms of direct playing style and versatility.

It remains to be seen whether they make a big move to acquire him in January or wait to sign him at a slightly reduced fee.
