GRAND BLANS, Michigan — Stewart Sink defended the title in the Alliance Challenge for his second PGA Tour Champions victory, defeating Ernie Els in the first hole of Sunday’s playoffs.

Cink was closed at a 4-under 68, birdieing two of the last three holes, and matched the ELS at Warwick Hills’ 15-under 201. Else interpreted the last five holes at 69.

“It’s quite stressful, so I don’t know if it will increase or subtract from your life for years,” Cink said. “But if you’re winning, if you’re on the side of the stick about this, it feels so good. It was so much fun. I put down the stretch a lot. Ernie hadn’t done anything wrong and he was in the wrong place today.”

Cink, 52, won the Insperity Invitational in Texas in May, beating Goosen in the playoffs. He won eight PGA Tours and was the top of the Open in 2009.

Cink opened at 62 and shot 71 on Friday, entering the final round stroke behind the ELS.

Steven Alker (65), Cameron Percy (70) and Soren Kjeldsen (70) finished third at 12 under. Goosen (71) and Tongchajaide (69) were under the age of 11.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
