  • Why is Spurs’ latest target likely to be Dele 2.0?

Dere captured the hearts of Tottenham Hotspur’s fanbase during a spell in North London and took part in the £5 million transfer from MK Don in the summer of 2015.

The supporters couldn’t imagine the immediate impact he had on his first team. He has won 269 appearances.

The British won the PFA Young Player of the Year in a row, but his time at the club ended abruptly – lowering the pecking order after scoring 14 times in his final three years at the club.

To revive his career, he joined Como in January, but then left Cesc Fabregas side during the offseason only took a total of 10 minutes.

There cannot be denied that the attacking midfielder failed to meet the early expectations he once had in his professional career – it could potentially land a similar player before the September 1 deadline.

Xavi Simons is a player who has appeared on the Spurs radar over the past few days, and the Lilywhites class has even consulted with the German side for more than a £60 million transfer.

Chelsea are said to have led the race in recent weeks, but Thomas Frank’s side has been able to complete his own hijacking for Dutch International signing in the coming days.

However, according to TBR Football, he is not the only attacker to appear on the list recently, as Manchester United Bomb Squadron member Jadon Sancho is a potential option.

Journalist Graeme Bailey claims that Lily White has been “provided” a last-minute deal to the British.

Frank’s side also said he was desperate for the left wing before Monday’s deadline and could target the 25-year-old move, which was loaned five times at Chelsea in 2024/25.

Why is Spurs’ latest target likely to be Dele 2.0?

If his career continued on the same trajectory, Dere was still a key member of the Spurs team and then entered the best year of his career.

At 29, he should thrive in the Premier League, but unfortunately, off-field events have prevented the former England International from kicking his career.

He spoke openly about his personal life two years ago, allowing supporters to gain insight into his struggles.

Ultimately, it’s safe to say that despite his excellent start to his career, the player was unable to meet the possibility of exploding into the scene. This is also evident in Sancho and his own career.

The Winger thrived in Borussia Dortmund and made more than 120 appearances for the Bundesliga side before completing the £72 million switch to join Manchester United in the summer of 2021.

He appeared in the Red Devils only 83 times, scoring only 12 times, not in line with the high expectations he had arrived at Old Trafford.

It’s unclear how much the 25-year-old deal will cost, but Stamford Bridge’s Loan Spell statistics show that he still has the best talent.

Labeled “Incredible” by Joe Cole, Sancho ranks in the 91st percentile of the 90th percentile (5.1) and 91st percentile, and ranks in the 91st percentile of carry on the opposition box around 90 (2.9).

Such numbers highlight the threat the former Dortmund star has in the attacking area, demonstrating his ability to advance the ball on certain occasions.

He also completed 2.3 take-ons per 90. The success rate is 46%.

The Winger was also able to consistently find teammates, completing 83% of the passes he attempted, and was then ranked in the 93rd percentile of passes in the opposition box.

I won’t deny that Sancho won’t be a lot of supporter’s first choice between now and the end of the window, but if he can regain his best form, it could be a great option.

It’s unclear how many transactions you’ll be setting up this summer in Spurs, but that’s certainly a risk worth taking – well outweighing potential drawbacks.
