Mark Guech’s future at Crystal Palace is cast on new uncertainty, with reports suggesting that England International is not intending to renew its contract with the club.
The 25-year-old centre-back is currently preparing to beat the final year of his contract at Selhurst Park and leave as a free agent next summer.
The news comes after a dramatic final day of the transfer window, which appears to be on the brink of sealing off the dream move for Liverpool.
Mark Guech failed to seal his move to Liverpool
The Reds, eager to strengthen their backline, surfaced the late offer, first accepted by Palace President Steve Parish. Guehi even completed the first phase of his medical care, and the transaction sheet was submitted before the 7pm deadline, placing the switch within touched distance.
However, Palace Manager Oliver Grasner intervened decisively. With little time to secure replacements, it is understood that Glasner threatened to stop if the Star Defender was allowed to leave.
Faced with the risk of losing his manager and his captain inwading, Parrish reversed his decision and pulled the plug in the transfer hours before the windows closed.
Crystal Palace defender is disappointed with his club
The U-turn is left Guehi Furious. According to the Times, the defender feels disappointed with the club and is determined not to extend his stay.
The palace may have kept him for some time, but the long-term outcome of their decisions appears to be increasingly dark. As long as the situation does not change dramatically, Guehi will be free to negotiate pre-contract negotiations with overseas clubs from January.
Liverpool could either revisit Guehi’s situation with the winter window or wait until it becomes available for free transfers next summer.
Palace, meanwhile, faces a difficult prospect of losing key players without receiving transfer fees.
