US Open: Jannik Sinner Rolls as No. 25Félix Auger-Aliassime knocks off No. 8 Alex de Minaur quarterly

Jannik Sinner’s title defense at US Open is alive.

The world’s top-ranked players had absolutely no issues in the quarter-finals at the Grand Slam on Wednesday night. He rolled fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 to secure a spot in the semi-finals. He now moves forward to face Canada’s Felix Auger Aliasime on Friday.

Thinner almost blanked Musetti in the opening set, starting 5-0 before finally dropping the game. Musetti simply couldn’t do anything.

Musetti stitched a bit for the second, but he won the first game and held things firmly on a short 4-3 lead, but Sinner eventually took off. He won the final three straight games and sealed off the second set.

By then, Musetti had been mostly spent. Thinner cruised to a 6-2 victory in the final set, finishing the match in just two hours.

Thinner is about to win his second straight open this fall. He rolled Taylor Fritz in straight sets in last season’s championship match. The Sinner defeated Alexander Zverev in the Australian Open Finals in January, and after Alcaraz won him in the French Open Finals, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz earlier this summer to win Wimbledon.

Félix Auger-Aliasime gets upset

Tiebreakers in the second and fourth sets beat Canada’s Felix Auger Aria Sim for over four hours on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the US Open.

Knocking off the top 10 seeds twice in the tournament, Augar Aliasim bounced back from the loss of the first set again.

25-year-old Auger Aliasime and former sixth in the world previously disrupt the third seed in Germany’s Alexander Zverev, third seed, 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4 and 6-4.

This was when Auger Aliasime reached his second US Open semi-final when he lost to ultimate champion Danil Medvedev after running in 2021. This is also the third time Augar Ariasime has made progress beyond the second round in the Grand Slam tournament since 2022.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old De Minaur is still looking for his first semi-final in the majors. He reached such a quarterfinal.

Auger-Aliassime recorded almost three times the ace (22) as De Minaur (8). Auger-Aliassime also hit 51 winners, 22 more than De Minaur. However, these statistics don’t tell the full story of a heavily contested match featuring the 87-minute set set, the longest set on the men’s side of the US Open this year. In particular, the match was twisted in the fourth set in which De Minauer defeated Auger Aliasim in the fourth game, but only broke with four straight points in the ninth game.

That misstep allowed Augaria Sim to ultimately force a tiebreak. This included four double faults. Two from the players each.

Auger Aliasim is eventually pulled away and punches tickets to the semi-finals, where he assumes the sinner. No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz and No. 7 Novak Jjokovic meet in the other semi-finals on Friday.
