PARIS — Matteo Berrettini will be pulled out of the French Open due to an unspecified injury and replaced by a lucky loser with a main draw, organizers said Thursday.

Playing at Roland Garos begins Sunday at the Grand Slam on Clay Court.

The 28th-ranked Italian retired against Casperudo in the third round of last week’s Italian Open.

Two weeks ago, he withdrew from a third round match with Jack Draper in Madrid due to an abdominal injury.

Berrettini was runner-up Wimbledon in 2021, but has been kept in injury since.

Last year he withdrew from the Australian opening with a right foot injury the night before the tournament.

Two years ago, he retreated from the Italian Open to recover from a laceration of the stomach muscle.

The massive Berettini also reached the 2019 US Open semi-finals, with 10 career titles.
