  • Jamie Karager was very critical of Mabri
  • Liverpool struggled to break down the stubborn Burnley

Former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports expert Jamie Carrager didn’t write words after Burnley’s Hannibal Mabri was involved in the incident that ultimately led to Liverpool’s late winner.

In what many call poor moments of decision making, Karager described Hannibal’s actions as “brain-dead,” claiming it was not just a mistake, but a moment that showed his lack of awareness and Burnley’s defeat.

The controversy came at the time of injury following a handball by Hannibal within Burnley’s penalty area. Mohamed Sara stepped up and converted a spot kick to secure Liverpool’s 1-0 victory.

The decision to penalty continued on the cross, and the ball was pressured into Hannibal’s arm.

Jamie Karager was very critical of Mabri

Karager is dull, this was not a coincidence born out of misfortune, he saw it as a moment of carelessness.

Carragher said the Burnley player “controlled” his limbs very simply at key moments.

“Burnley doesn’t deserve it.” Carragher said in the Sky Sports commentary, as reported in The Daily Mail.

Critics have named Hannibal’s decision “brain dead.” “It’s a crazy moment! What is he doing?”

Beyond just the handball itself, Carragher aimed to see that neither side (and Burnley, Liverpool) produced a compelling performance overall.

Despite Liverpool controlling ownership and registering many attempts, the game lacked sharpness and cohesion until that critical moment.

This kind of error in the box is especially expensive for teams that defended five behind the scenes for the majority of the game. Burnley’s defensive setup would otherwise have been held firmly, but this lapse turned the game into a head.

For Burnley, the outcome is a bitter lesson. That moment of misjudgment covers a disciplined, defensive performance, and Karager’s criticism is justified.

Despite the defeat, manager Scott Parker should be confident about his team’s chances this season. They decided most of the game against the defending champions.
