  • Arne Slot may prefer Robertson over Kerkez
  • Milos Kerquez has a long way to go to Liverpool

Following his troubling performance against Burnley, Milos Kerkez is facing what insiders call “expanding spells” from Liverpool’s Starting XI, Football Insider reports.

The Merseyside Club signed Kerquez from Bournemouth in the summer transfer window and left back has been the starter of the Arneslot team since the start of the season.

His arrival pushed Andy Robertson to the bench and Kerkez had been very impressive for the club ever since signing for them, but he managed to lose his place to the experienced Robertson.

During his match against Burnley, Kerkez showed his lack of experience when booked for the simulation.

The Dutch manager replaced him with Robertson. Robertson played a great match for the defending Premier League champions and helped Scott Parker win 1-0 on the side.

Former Chief Scout Mick Brown discussed the situation regarding Kerkez and what it means for the Hungarian left-back in terms of his potential for advancement.

“Kerkez is going to have a hard time getting back to the team now.” He told the soccer insider.

“The manager decided to take him off in the first half, and it was probably right because there was a risk of him being sent off.

“But if he puts his manager in a position where he has to make that call, he is not going to be happy with your performance.

“Robertson is the first choice left-back for most clubs in the Premier League and he is keen to make his mark and come back to the first XI.

“When Kerquez went to Liverpool, I thought he would be a top-class alternative for him.

“He is by no means a bad player, he is clearly of the highest quality and he appreciates him at Liverpool, but this is what you need at the top clubs of the modern game.

“Players need to know that if they’re not making mistakes or getting hurt, there are people in their wings waiting to replace them. It’s a bit of a healthy competition.

“So Kerkez is hoping that when Robertson comes in he’ll be out of the team and then it’ll be a fight to get his place in Starting XI.”

Brown’s comments show that the margin of errors at top clubs is small. Slots may now support the experience of Kerquez’s youth Robertson.

Kerkez is an asset when it comes to the offensive aspects of the game, but defensively he can be a bit slower.

Kerquez may be on the sidelines for now, but this is not necessarily a failure. He is still young and has a long way to go. The possibilities are there, all he needs is to raise more under the slot.
