It’s no surprise that manager Reuben Amorim is once again under pressure after losing three of his first six Premier League matches for Manchester United this season.
The 40-year-old could only lead the Red Devils to a 15th place finish in the last time, but after taking the reins midway through the campaign he benefited from doubt.
However, the hierarchy supported him with over £200 million to strengthen his first team, but so far his attempts seem to have been of no use.
He has since started being asked about his long-term future in that role, but despite his recent poor form, the hierarchy is still thought to have not planned a manager change.
Despite such reports, rumors continue to swirl around Old Trafford, with many names constantly being promoted about potential switch to take the reins in the near future.
The latest on United hunting has replaced the Amorim alternative
Former British boss Gareth Southgate over the past few days is highly related to his role at United, not the first time, after being promoted in positions multiple times in recent years.
The 55-year-old will be a cheap option for the class, with no need to pay compensation, given that he is currently not working after resigning from the three-Lions role last July.
But according to Graeme Bailey, he is not the only manager in their field of vision at the moment, and Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is another big target.
Journalists have recently confirmed that the Eagles are planning to bring Austria to a new contract, but the Red Devils are rushing to secure his services.
He also said the 51-year-old could accept the Switch after receiving the funding shortage at Selhurst Park.
Why United’s latest target will be the next Mourinho
Jose Mourinho was the manager who split his opinion during his time at United, but his ability to win the trophy is simply not modest.
The 62-year-old spent two and a half years in his role at Old Trafford, securing two trophies in the form of the Europa League and the EFL Cup.
He also led the club to the joint league since Iraq Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, finishing the 2017/18 season in Manchester City’s second place.
His candid nature often attracted dissatisfaction from his fanbase, which then led to his departure from the Red Devils in December 2018.
However, when hierarchy appoints Grasner, the next version of manager can be appointed, and the Austrians have many similarities with Mourinho.
In an astonishing event in 2024/25, the 51-year-old claimed the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City in the finals to secure his first major trophy.
He also won a community shield against Liverpool in August, matching the feat Mourinho achieved at Chelsea before the Dreams’ move to the theatre.

On the 72 outings in charge of the Eagles, he claimed victory with 35, but lost only 15 times.
With such records, he has lost six fewer games than United’s Amorim. That’s despite having been in charge of 23 more outings than Old Trafford’s 40-year-old.
It remains unclear whether Glasner himself is open to travel to Manchester, but it is clear that the Austrians are an incredible appointment.
Given the sense of failure has been felt since the current boss was in charge almost 12 months ago, it is important for the board to make a big call on his future in the coming weeks, but the appointment is equally important as Glassner needs to be the number one goal.
