  • Liverpool’s defense has been struggling this season

Liverpool was hit in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge as 18-year-old substitute Estevao Willian was hit in a halt to seal the misery of the visitors, leading to a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, with former England right-back Gary Neville not refraining from post-match evaluation.

Neville picked left-back Milos Kerquez for criticism of Sky Sports, describing the young defender as “naive” and saying “it looks like a baby there.”

The comments fueled discussions about Liverpool’s shape and their defensive frailty after a series of results that made supporters more concerned.

Chelsea’s dramatic victory was the 95th minute winner following Moyes Caseko’s early strike and Cody Gakupo’s second half equalizer, giving the Blues three key points that caught Liverpool.

The late defeat continued the Reds’ worrying sequence. The Reds have admitted a later goal that has lost consecutive matches throughout the competition and changed momentum from momentum. The outcome and the way of defeat prompted a strong response.

Neville was particularly dull about Kerquez’s performance.

“Boy Kerkes, I’m honestly saying to you, at this point he looks like a player on the youth team.” He said on Gary Neville’s podcast.

“I know he’s a good player, but he looks like he’s playing on a youth team, or under the age of 21. He looks very naive. He looks like a baby there. He’s lost his 50s to 50s in Neto!

“He’s had Premier League experience. He’s not coming from other countries. He has a lot of games under his belt, he’s played on these lots before, so I was hoping he’d put in the slots.

“One thing is, he plays with Virgil Vandic, the best center half in the world, so if you want to play in the back four, you want to play with a good defender.

“And he has a hard-working player on that side, and that’s not that he’s playing right with Sarah in front of him.

“But I have to say he’s been struggling since the first 10 minutes of his match against Bournemouth in the first game of the season.”

One performance should not define a player’s career, but the combination of a delay in defeat and a swinging defensive display means that the margin of error is smaller on the Arne Slot’s side.

Liverpool needs to find immediate solutions through isolated errors, such as tactical tweaks, personnel changes, and psychological resets, and isolated error types, which are described as being a recurring theme of risk rather than isolated incidents.
