Arsenal continue to strengthen their squad, with rumors growing of French defensive midfielder Lucien Agume, currently at Sevilla, as a bold midfield target this winter.
Fichajes said the Gunners are reportedly preparing for a January raid, with departures in midfield and questions about depth.
Sevilla have made a good start to La Liga this season, with Agume being a central figure, sitting in front of the back line, breaking up play and helping to transition from defense to attack.
Agume’s name may not yet have global superstar status, but his skill set is gaining attention.
Sevilla may be open to selling Agume
Sevilla have reportedly set a valuation of £34m for the player, but sources say they could make a lower offer if the player expresses his intention to leave.
It is no coincidence that Arsenal are interested in Agume. Over the summer, the Gunners saw the departure of experienced midfielders Thomas Partey and Jorginho.
They were replaced by Christian Norgaard and Martin Zvimendi.
Still, Arsenal’s management are thinking long-term. The invitation of Agume may be part of that foresight.
The Gunners will need to convince Agume that he is more than just a back-up option and that they can take on the challenge and grow together.
Arsenal considering adding depth to midfield
With key departures already underway, the Gunners appear to want to act pre-emptively. Agume offers the kind of potential and strength that could well be incorporated into Arsenal’s framework.
If Arsenal can thread that needle, Agume’s signing could become a midfield asset not only in the years ahead, but also at the highest level of competition.
Arsenal have the likes of Declan Rice, Mikel Merino, Zvimendi and Norgaard in midfield, so Arteta believes it is important to add another player in that position.
