  • Liverpool battle with PSG to sign Rodgers

Looking to spend big again, Liverpool are reported to be going head-to-head with Paris Saint-Germain for the £80m talent, who has been compared to the French club’s young superstar Desir Douayt.

Liverpool representative summary

For a group of players who entered the international campaign having suffered three consecutive defeats in all competitions, Liverpool’s stars enjoyed an impressive few weeks off against their home country.

Just last night, Dominik Szoboszlai found himself in the right place at the right time to score the last equalizing goal in the match between Hungary and Portugal. Meanwhile, Alexis Mac Allister found the back of the net for Argentina, while Kodi Gakpo also scored free goals for the Netherlands.

In fact, almost all of Liverpool’s stars have enjoyed a taste for their country at least once during the holidays. Virgil van Dijk found the back of the net, Giorgi Mamadashvili saved Georgia’s penalty and Mohamed Salah scored as Egypt qualified for the 2026 World Cup.

Those moments should act as the perfect antidote to Liverpool’s recent form as they prepare to welcome rivals Manchester United to Anfield this weekend. This is a must-win game for the Reds as they look to regain their composure at the start of their Premier League title defense.

Thanks to international holidays, Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards could also have planned ahead. They have already broken Liverpool’s transfer record twice in the summer with the signings of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, and now face off against PSG for the £80m star.

Liverpool battle with PSG to sign Rodgers

According to reports in Spain, Liverpool are currently in a race with PSG to sign Morgan Rodgers, who Aston Villa value as much as £80 million, for next summer.

The England international still has five years left on his current contract, but Villa Park officials still have to consider PSR concerns and may have no choice but to accept a big offer if it comes their way.

For a player of Rodgers’ caliber, that £80m transfer fee could prove to be worth every penny for Liverpool, who have been the missing piece to their title defense puzzle so far this season.

Comparing PSG star Douai with his unpredictability, dribbling and directness, Rodgers could very well reach the same level as the Frenchman upon his move to Anfield.

However, whether manager Unai Emery is keen to let his star man go is another question. Rodgers, described as “fantastic” by England manager Thomas Tuchel, is vital to the Midlands players’ already set ambitions.
