  • Manchester United eyeing new striker signing
  • ‘Deadly’ Letegui could play an active role in Europe’s top clubs

Manchester United could be ready to pay £52m to sign the ‘deadly’ striker who has scored a whopping 28 goals in the 2024-25 season.

Manchester United eyeing new striker signing

Benjamin Sesco scored his first goal at Old Trafford in the 2-0 win over Sunderland last time out, but the jury is still out on the former RB Leipzig player as he was unable to feature for his national team during the international break.

Slovenia drew both of their World Cup qualifying matches 0-0, with Sesco just one stroke behind in their last game against Switzerland, but coach Majaz Keku was unimpressed with the performance of his forwards, insisting they had “no blood”.

This Sunday’s trip to Anfield will give this summer’s signing a chance to become an instant hero, with Man United’s last Premier League away victory over arch-rivals Liverpool coming back in January 2016.

However, manager Ruben Amorim is not too happy with Man United’s recent signings as they step up their search for a new striker, with Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta the latest target.

However, Mateta is not the only option on the shortlist, with reports from Spain claiming that Man United are prepared to pay between €50m and €60m (£43m to £52m) for Al Qadosia striker Mateo Letegui, who joined the Saudi Pro League club from Atalanta in the summer.

Retegui is Serie A’s top scorer for the 2024-25 season and the 26-year-old has been added to United’s target list as they look to sign an immediate striker.

Manager Al Kadosia intends to keep the Italian available given his recent arrival at the club, but a deal could become possible if the Red Devils present an attractive offer.

‘Deadly’ Letegui could play an active role in Europe’s top clubs

It is understandable that a top player would be convinced to move to the Saudi Professional League given the financial incentives on offer, but the Italian international still has a lot of work to do at the highest level and could be capable of becoming one of the best strikers in the world.

The 2024-25 season was the Argentine-born striker’s most impressive season to date, scoring 28 goals in all competitions, enough to ensure Atalanta finished third in Serie A.

Former Italy national team manager Luciano Spalletti has also praised the centre-forward in the past, saying: “In the box he is deadly. And now he has learned how to connect with the team better. He will become a top player.”

Retegui has continued to attract attention for his country in World Cup qualifiers, scoring in the recent 3-1 win over Estonia and 3-0 win over Israel, and the striker’s performances for both club and country suggest he will be Man United’s top signing.
