Man United could add players to their squad in January, but it looks very likely that one or two players will leave Old Trafford. Specifically, the departure of Joshua Zirkzee, who was hardly expected since the start of the season, is starting to seem more and more obvious.

Zirkzee has yet to start in any competition, with the likes of Benjamin Sesco and Matheus Cunha/Mason Mount preferring him as a striker option. For this reason, he has made his intentions to leave clear and Man United are ready to give him the green light.

According to TBR Football, Man United are set to sanction Zirkzee’s departure in January, with Roma currently the most keen on signing him. They are prepared to terminate Evan Ferguson’s loan contract, paving the way for the Dutch forward to return to Italy.

“I have heard that Roma are currently considering a scheme to send the Irishman back to Brighton, which would allow them to bring in a new front man, and Zirksee is their favorite option. Zirksee is set to move on and the interest in him is very strong. He could remain in England or, as we have made clear, have the option of returning to Italy, but there are also teams in Spain, France and Germany, which will be his choice really.”

“United are going to sanction that. They really like his attitude and his commitment, but they all realize he’s gone way down the pecking order given the arrivals of Cunha, Sesco and Mbeumo in the summer. The Red Devils want him to play in the World Cup next summer and his only chance to play is next year.”

It would make a lot of sense for Zirkzee to leave Man United, and it will be interesting to see whether he is asked to sign a permanent deal in January or next summer.
