Williams wears fan-inspired Gulf livery in Brazil

Williams will sport a special fan-designed Gulf livery on its FW47 during this weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Gulf has been a Williams partner since 2023 and has undergone a number of livery takeovers during that time, featuring the iconic light blue and orange color scheme. The latest Sofans asked people to share words related to lace, and the most popular posts were incorporated into the design used at Interlagos.

Team principal James Vowles said: “As an iconic F1 team with a championship-winning tradition and plans to win again, we know that Atlassian Williams Racing means so much to our millions of fans around the world.” “This incredible livery campaign with Gulf really brings that to life. It’s an honor to race every lap in Brazil, with the passion and emotion of our fans woven into the beautiful design of this car.”

The design features 493 words submitted by fans since July, of which “legacy,” “passion” and “teamwork” were the most popular with 140,000 votes.

“The 2025 Driven by Words Gulf x Atlassian Williams Racing livery embodies a seamless blend of tradition and innovation, fusing classic racing spirit with contemporary design,” said Ed Scott, Williams Head of Creative Design. “The iconic Gulf Orange is framed by the unmistakable pale blue that has defined motorsport history, flowing effortlessly from the nose to the rear wing. Timeless in shape but with a decidedly modern attitude, the design features bold, purposeful typography inspired by the words shared by fans around the world, elegantly woven into clean blue surfaces, creating a confident and forward-looking expression of Gulf’s timeless heritage.”

As well as the special livery, Williams earlier this week announced tweaks to its team name and logo for 2026, replacing Atlassian Williams Racing with Atlassian Williams F1 Team and incorporating a retro ‘W’ into the new logo.

“I’m proud that from next year we will be known as the Atlassian Williams F1 Team, and that our cars will carry a logo inspired by our founder Sir Frank Williams and closely associated with our decades of success,” Vowles added. “As a team, we are inspired by the past, but excited about the future and committed to writing another championship-winning chapter in Williams history.

“This evolved team identity reflects who we are and where we are going and reintroduces our title-winning heritage to a growing F1 audience that was not interested in the sport when we were last dominant.”
