Alcaraz will be in the same group as Djokovic and Sinner will be in the same group as Zverev at ATP Finals

TURIN, Italy — Top seed Carlos Alcaraz was tied with Novak Djokovic and defending champion Jannik Sinner was tied with Alexander Zverev at the ATP Finals on Thursday.

The Jimmy Connors Group will feature Alcaraz, Djokovic, Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur.

Bjorn Borg’s group has Sinner, Zverev, Ben Shelton and either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti vying for the final spot.

Auger-Aliassime occupies eighth place in the final qualifier, but Musetti can leapfrog the Canadian if he wins this week’s tournament in Athens.

Djokovic, who is also playing in Athens, has questionable status. Djokovic, who holds a record seven ATP Finals titles, sat out last year’s tournament and said he would decide whether to participate after Athens.

The finals will begin on Sunday in a round-robin format. The top two from each group advance to the semifinals. The finals are scheduled for November 16th.

Alcaraz will be competing in this event for the third time. His best finish was the semifinals in 2023.

Alcaraz and Sinner are still battling for No. 1 in the year-end rankings, which will be determined by their performance in the finals.

Zverev won the 2018 and 2021 ATP Finals, while Fritz lost to Sinner in last year’s final.

De Minaur will be participating for the second year in a row, and Shelton will be participating for the first time.
