Rangers have reportedly begun an investigation into signing Mujaed Sadiq from Genk in Belgium in a bid to give Danny Rolle his first move to Ibrox.
The new manager had a mixed start in Scotland, winning against Kilmarnock and Hibernian and at least halting their rot in the Scottish Premiership, but suffered a heartbreak in extra-time against Celtic. When Roma traveled to Ibrox in midweek, there may have been some hope that Rolle’s side might pull off an upset before their problems were once again exposed for all to see.
The Italian team took the lead in the 13th minute thanks to Matthias Soule, but Lorenzo Pellegrini scored just before half-time. While it wasn’t shocking, the gulf in quality was evident at times during Roma’s 2-0 win.
Speaking to the media at Full Time, Roll acknowledged his disappointment: “The result is disappointing. In some important moments we didn’t do the right thing.
“I’ve said it many times and I’ll say it again: this game is a moment where we need to grow. We want to win this game in the future, but there are a lot of things we need to improve on at the moment.
“In the second half we changed our shape and put another player higher up the pitch. Until the 75th minute we felt like if we used that moment to get our belief and confidence going in a positive direction we might have something. But we didn’t do that. And in the end we played a very experienced team.”
The Rangers are once again lacking defensively, and that’s an issue the 49ers will have to address in the January transfer window. A central defender should be at the top of Rolle’s shopping list as he looks to make his mark on his current team.
Rangers begin investigation into Mujaed Sadiq
As reported by journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Rangers have now begun a search to sign Mujaed Sadiq from Belgian side Genk in the January transfer window. The 25-year-old appears to have made a positive impression on the Jay family and may have first caught their attention after pocketing summer signing Chelmiti in the 1-0 win over the Scottish giants in September.
The central defender completed 45 of 46 pass attempts, made 15 defensive contributions and was never dribbled through in a dominant performance against Rangers. Celmiti, on the other hand, made just one touch inside the opposition box and was given the ball away three times. Saddiq improved on a memorable night for the struggling striker.
It is also worth noting that the Spaniard can play not only as a centre-back but also as a right-back, potentially providing important versatility in the role. As far as first signings go, Sadiq would be a great option to rely on in the January transfer window.
