Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly been given a big push to sign star defender Micky van de Ven, amid growing interest from Liverpool and Real Madrid, according to renowned transfer journalist Graham Bailey.
Both European giants are thought to be in the market for a new centre-back in 2026, with Van de Ven emerging as a top target following his impressive performances.
Since joining Spurs from Wolfsburg in 2023, the Dutchman has become one of the Premier League’s quickest and most reliable defenders, praised for his speed and recovery abilities.
Liverpool are said to be particularly interested as they plan the life of Ibrahima Konate, whose current contract expires at the end of next season.
Liverpool are impressed with Micky van de Ven
Arne Slott has praised Van de Ven’s style of play and believes he is an ideal fit for his attacking ball-playing system.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid are also monitoring the 24-year-old as they continue their long-term succession plans for veterans such as David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger.
However, Tottenham remain optimistic about keeping their defensive talisman.
Bailey told TBR:
“A new contract for Van de Ven has emerged as one of Tottenham’s priorities under manager Vinay Venkatesham and negotiations have already been underway since the summer.
“But it goes both ways, and Van de Ven is very happy at Tottenham. He has settled in admirably since his arrival and has now emerged as one of the best players in the Premier League, and his partnership with Cristian Romero is on par with anything in the game.”
“Romero has a role to play here. His decision not to seek a transfer in the summer has influenced Van de Ven, who is ready to sign after him and he will be rewarded on similar terms to his Argentine colleague.”
“Yes, we are aware that both Spurs and Van de Ven are interested. That is undeniable. Spurs believe he is one of the best players anywhere in Europe and they recognize that with this prospective new contract. Negotiations are expected to accelerate this month.”
Tottenham close to offering new contract
Spurs are already preparing to offer Van de Ven a new long-term contract that would make him the club’s highest earner.
Following the Argentine’s own decision to reject interest from top clubs in the summer, current teammate Cristian Romero reportedly played a key role in convincing him to stay.
Negotiations over a new contract are expected to accelerate in the coming weeks, with Spurs hoping to secure his future before rival clubs increase their interest.
